How To Cope with Depression

Did you ever wake up feeling down and all you wanted to do is sleep all day?  While it remains prevalent in our culture today, depression can be very demanding and confusing disease to try to conquer.  You feel sluggish, you have trouble focusing, there’s a lack of energy and you just feel like the world is crumbling down. Depression is a very real medical condition that can cause a variety of symptoms, including intense sadness, insomnia, poor appetite and a lack of interest in the things that once gave you pleasure.  One of the most important things you need to know is that you’re not alone; so don’t feel ashamed or embarrassed, in fact approximately 20 million American adults suffer with some form of depression every year, according to the National Institute of Mental Health.

So how do you gain courage to take the necessary steps to deal with your depression?

.
Live a Healthy Interaction, exercise any way you can: I know it’s hard to exercise when you’re trying to fight depression.  Exercise provides your brain a natural high and releases the stress that otherwise stays coiled in your body.  Consider exercising as a way to lift you up and your knock out punch to fight depression.  Start by taking walks around your neighborhood or your local park, find a pleasant activity you can do every day, or every other day and make it a routine.  I’ve always felt yoga is an amazing form of exercise both physical and mentally and a mood booster.

.
Create a Wellness Checklist: This list is meant to encourage you as you fight depression, this list should address the needs of mind, body and spirit that will provide you with your realistic goals.  I suggest to keep your list simple and friendly. Always make sure to make it a priority and follow up.

3. Try to get a good night’s sleep: I know, how do I sleep when I have insomnia?  Don’t worry is very normal to loose sleep when you are fighting depression, if this is something you are struggling with make sure your bedroom is optimized for sleep.  Your bedroom should be your sanctuary and a place for rest not stimulation.  Get rid of any
related work or distracting objects in your room, make it comfortable and relaxing enough for you to sleep in.
Make your bedroom as peaceful as possible.

Now that you’ve follow few steps, perhaps one of the most important aspects when fighting depression is social interaction. It is so important to get out and interact with friends and family.  I once had very bad break up when I was young, I didn’t want to interact with anyone or leave my room one thing I learned is that I wasn’t going to
fight my depression by staying in my room crying. Interaction is so important because it builds confidence, interaction and also very distracting.  If going out is not your thing, find a club, volunteer, chat online or attend local events.

Having a hobby or passionate interest is a must when fighting depression without the help of medication. Whether you love your job or hate it, having something different to look forward to on the weekends or during your time off is essential. Hobbies help to occupy down time and enhance your skills and knowledge of something different.  Also, having a hobby can help you to identify with others in a specific area, which is important.

Fighting depression naturally can be a huge battle.  Utilizing these tips can seem like a monumental task at first, but if you make a commitment to yourself, then you can make it happen and beat this disease, without any  prescription medication.  The most important aspect to fighting this potentially debilitating disease naturally is doing what works for you, setting realistic goals, and incorporating the right ideas into your routine.
