When you have a big work presentation or an interview to prepare for, it makes sense for you to feel nervous. You’ve got the jitters, your hands are starting to sweat and you can feel your stomach in your throat. These feelings aren’t exactly ideal when you’re revving up to speak in front of a bunch of people. So how do we get through these nervous feelings in order to seem calm, cool and confident? Accept Your Feelings- Step one to getting through your nerves is simply to acknowledge your nervous feelings when you can. It’s so easy to get caught up in what’s going on in your head that you forget to take a chance to notice how you’re actually feeling. Once you accept these feelings, you can see where they’re coming from.
What’s The Worst That Can Happen?- Once you can detect how your feeling, question the worst case scenario and figure out how to prepare for it. Learn to answer that question that you’re most worried about and move on. Being prepared is your best defense against nervous feelings! You’ve got this.
Take A Few Deep Breaths- Take a moment before you go in for your interview and take a couple of calming breaths. Make sure to get them into your stomach rather than your chest. Breathe them in deep and let them out slowly. Feel the relaxed and you will be relaxed.
Confidence- Now that you’re relaxed, we need to focus on your confidence. Pull your shoulders back, and imagine yourself rocking your presentation. Imagine your boss being amazed and act as though you have it all together. In the end, there’s nothing to worry about so let those confident feelings get you though this.
