It happens to all of us. There comes a time when we are the ones being left out of a life situation. Our friends go out for a night on the town or our coworkers head to lunch and somehow the one person left sitting at their cubicle is you. Whether it’s intentional or not, it doesn’t feel so great and knowing how to handle feeling left out is half the battle. Whether you’re feeling like you might miss out on something or you’re getting the sense that it was deliberate, here are a few ideas on what to do when feeling left out.
- Be honest with yourself and others.
- Ask if you can be involved the next time or offer to help plan the next get together.
- If you feel like you’re being consistently left out, ask why.
- Remind yourself that you can’t always be a part of everything. Make sure you aren’t being overly sensitive.
- Be the one to initiate activities or projects.
- Decide if this group of people is worth feeling rejected and start spending time with people who go the extra mile to include you.
Has this ever happened to you? How did you handle the situation?
