When we grow and change as people we oftentimes outgrow friends and family members. It happens more often than you think. You come to realize that those around you aren’t the positive influences you once thought they were. When this happens, we have to say goodbye. We have to choose growth and change for the better. Do you really want to be tied down by those negative influences or are you ready to take the journey to somewhere new? The decision is the hardest part. Here are some steps to help you let go of negative people. Let me know what you think in the comments section.
Evaluate Your Relationships- Are the people who surround you supportive of your thoughts and ideas? Ask yourself this question: Is this a place where I can grow? If not, then it’s time to move on. You need to step back and really think about the people with whom you surround yourself. Remember that you are the sum total of the five people you spend the most time with. You may also want to consider what’s going on in the life of the person you’re thinking of letting go.
Listen To Your Inner Voice- Listen to your feelings. They’re often an indicator of change. If you feel as though you want to drown yourself when you’re around a certain person, well maybe you should lessen the time you spend around that person. You want your friends to lift you rather than keep you down.
Be Civil- Once you’ve made the decision to let go of the person, try to spend less and less time with them rather than bad-mouth them to other friends. Loosen the chain, but don’t delete them off social media. Letting go of someone doesn’t mean you have to hate him or her. Your vibe attracts your tribe so you probably brought that said person into your life in the first place. Whatever you feel they did doesn’t mean they did it in an intentional or hateful way.
