Some people have a natural ability to think outside the box. They tend to be predisposed to thinking creatively and being— well, creative. Is this you? If not, no worries. Thinking creatively is something that’s entirely learnable. All it takes is putting yourself through a couple experiences you wouldn’t necessarily put yourself through on a daily basis. It’s about trying new things! Thinking creatively can help bring you new and fresh ideas so why not take a whack at it? Read below and let me know what you think in the comments! Would you try any of these tips?
Check Out A Book You Wouldn’t Normally Read- It’s easy to head straight to the popular fiction section of the library or book store, but consuming the content we’re already prone to reading isn’t going to stimulate different thought. Next time you’re in your favorite bookstore, head to the Science Fiction section or the New Age section and pick out a book that speaks to you! Reading new content broadens our minds and teaches us something completely new in order to help us boost our creativity.
Go Watch A Movie In A Theatre- Go by yourself so you don’t have to dole out your opinion to anyone but yourself. Despite the fact that it’s easier to watch a movie at home these days, a theatre offers a complete sensory experience you wouldn’t get with your computer or TV. It’s something that might help inspire some creative thought. Look for some indie movies that can only be found in smaller theatres. A new experience with a movie you’re not prone to watching otherwise might help with that creative thought we keep talking about.
Find Out Someone Else’s Story- Shoot emails introducing yourself to people who inspire you. Cold call folks that you don’t know. Find out people’s story. I’m sure they’ll be willing to share. You’d be surprised by how quick people will open up to you. Doing this is scary and uncommon so it’ll help boost your confidence. It’ll also teach you something new so it can help broaden your creative thought.
