Many years ago, it was traditional practice to give something you love up for Lent. The whole idea behind this practice is to de-emphasize ourselves and show gratitude to God. I came across this wonderful idea recently, so I wanted to share it with you all; get rid of forty things in forty days to help the less fortunate while getting rid of stuff you don’t need.
Lent: Get Rid of 40 Things in 40 Days
The Challenge
The idea is to put one piece of clothing, accessory or toy in a large bag each day of Lent. Although Lent officially started on March 6th, you can still get involved today by finding fifteen items around your home you no longer use or need, then add a piece each day until March 18th.
The Result
At the end of the forty days, you donate your bag of goodies to a local charity or charity shop. As we clear our closets, we clear our minds and remind ourselves to be grateful for all of our blessings, not material things, and being blessed enough to be in a position to help others.
