Getting to where you want to be in your work life, or even following your dreams can be stressful. You’ve got a lot to think about and a lot to get figured out. No one seems to be helping you and everyone’s advice to get you more relaxed feels useless. It’s time to take things into your own hands and try your hand at meditation. There are specific meditation tips out there to help you reduce your stress, calm you mind and relax your body. All it takes is a couple steps. Check them out and let me know if they help you reduce your stress.
Find A Place Where You Can Relax- I like going into my backyard on a really hot day. I know it sounds odd, but the heat actually calms me and helps to me relax. Where is somewhere you can relax? By a pond, or in the corner of a park, maybe? Make sure it’s quiet and the kind of atmosphere you can take a moment for yourself. You aren’t going to get much meditating done by a busy park full of kids, now are you?
Find A Comfortable Position- Despite popular belief, you can lay on your back or on a headboard. It’s all about relaxation so that quintessential “om” position Julia Roberts showed us in Eat, Pray, Love isn’t the only meditation position out there. Get comfortable!
Turn Off Distractions And Breathe- Why have your phone on when you’re trying to decompress? Turn it off! Make sure there are no electronics near you. Next, take a couple of very relaxing breaths with your eyes closed. Try to create a rhythm with your breathing while focusing on it.
Imagine Your Happy Place- My happy place is at the top of a quiet hill. Where’s yours? Maybe it’s floating in a quiet pool or lying on a blanket while stargazing. Whatever the place, try your best to imagine it with as much detail as you can. Be sure to breathe.
Don’t Worry About Your Thoughts- Thoughts will show up, and cause you some stress, but don’t worry. No one is perfect when they first start. All it takes is practice. Acknowledge those thoughts and let them go.
