Reaching Your Goals: How to Stay Centered & Focused

Reasons-to-Start-Meditating

We all have goals. Somewhere in the back of our minds – even if they’re buried away – there are life goals, daily goals and even just goals for what we’ll accomplish within the next hour. But sometimes they’re hard to find – tough to stay focused on – and even more difficult to resurface once they’re lost. When we get busy and life becomes hectic, finding time to regain a sense of self, find that center and focus on those goals is tough – but it has to be done if we want to live life to the fullest and find personal fulfillment along the way. I recently stumbled upon a video featuring Tracee Ellis Ross, (daughter of Diana Ross) busy actress, model, comedian, television host. You name it, Tracee does it – and you have to wonder how she has time to also stay centered and focused on her goals. Her mantra is simple, but inspiring. Watch below and keep reading for my takeaways from this fun little glimpse into her busy life.

When you’re busy and your time is not your own, find the moments of silence that help you find that sense of self. Taking a moment here and there during the busiest times is OK – even if that means stealing a quick five minutes for a walk, to grab a coffee or even just to breathe in some fresh air. When life gets hectic, we all need a moment to regain our footing.

Fill the time you do have with all the things you love that you can’t squeeze in during the busy work week. Despite the tendency to fill weekends with errands and running around, remember – that is your time to hit the refresh button and remind yourself of all you’re passionate about. Each weekend take the time to set aside time to do something you love that you can’t squeeze in during the week. Maybe that means indulging in a few hours reading a book in a coffee shop, strolling the local farmers market or even hitting up a museum – whatever it is – let yourself have that time.

Reasons-to-Start-Meditating

Meditation is an excellent go-to during life’s busiest times (Jennifer Lopez turned to it during her recent busy season balancing three major productions). When life gets hectic, we often have to force ourselves to find that grounding sensation to bring it all back and regain a sense of stability. Even if you don’t have time to meditate or it’s just not your thing, try repeating this beautiful mantra inspired by Tracee:  “Do what you’re doing while you’re doing it.”

Find inner strength by maintaining a sense of self and a connection to something that’s more. Remember that even when the pressures of life seem intense and you’re not sure how to keep it all going, maintain who you are. Do not forget or abandon your goals, dreams, passions – and above all – your true sense of self.

Overall, consider that it all starts from within. Don’t go looking for answers outside of yourself. Find your center, list your goals, and believe you can do it – and you will. Can you take Tracee’s lessons for staying focused and centered and apply them to your own busy and hectic life?
