Recently, while promoting her new book: “The Power Playbook: Rules for Independence, Money and Success”, my friend La La went on an interview (shown below) where she talked about some realities she’d experienced when she started having success. La La shared how some of the people she was surrounded by accused her of having “changed” and not being the same girl she used to be. But the truth, as she so very tactfully put it, was that she was ready for the next step, ready to evolve and take on new levels of growth, while the people who were feeling a bit resentful of her situation weren’t quite ready to take that leap.
There are many steps to success involving hard work, dedication, consistency, and focus – really knowing what you want to achieve and being clear on the goals that will take you to that next level. But the other, less popular concept is being ready to move forward and surrounding yourself with people who will support you in that. There will be many accusations flung at you as you evolve because the people who want you to stay the same –because they’re staying the same– will feel as if you’re abandoning them. But if you’re doing something that’s right for you, something that helps you grow in a healthy way for your lifestyle and career, then it’s something you need to be clear and strong about. If you’re ready to move forward and take steps in a higher, bigger direction towards success, shut out the naysayers and keep forging ahead. They’ll join you when they’re ready. And if they don’t, you were only going to stay down there with them.
Check out La La’s book for more inspiration and tips on growing, both as a well-rounded person and as a successful professional. She’s one of the hardest working, most inspiring women I know. There’s much to learn from her journey.
