Relationship Talk: How to Get those Butterflies Back

Relationships are the most wonderful blessings we have in our lives, but sometimes things can start to feel a little stalled, somewhat stale and maybe even a bit boring. So how do you get it back? How can you find those butterflies that you once had every time your partner walked into the room. Remember when the butterflies were so fierce, you’d have to work up the nerve to call him or her? That feeling of butterflies and excitement for what’s to come is so important in keeping the spark alive in any relationship – so how do you get it back when it becomes hard to find? Here’s a few ideas.

Be OK with taking time for yourselves. Just because you’re trying to bring the spark back doesn’t mean you have to spend every moment glued to one another. Missing someone actually feels pretty good too and there’s nothing wrong with the heart yearning a little bit. It also gives you the space you need to feel refreshed and good about the time you do spend together. Remember – it’s all about balance.

Don’t forget to talk about your relationship and where it’s headed. Just because you get into a routine doesn’t mean you have to stop talking about what your relationship means and what the future looks like. It’s actually a great practice to find some time every once in a while to chat about where you think you’re headed as a couple. It will give you a chance to look both to the future and reflect on the past.

Practice daily acts of kindness with one another. When things start to become routine or stale, this can be easily forgotten – but remember when you used to love to shower eachother with compliments? This is an easy one to bring back and put into practice – just offer moments of positivity to one another each day. Promise – it will feel great and bring a bit of that missing spark back.

Make time for the romance. It’s pretty tough to regain those butterflies if you aren’t setting aside any time to be alone and be romantic. If the kids school and after school schedules are ruling your lives and work is taking over, you have to consciously set aside time to be together and focused on one another. And that means keeping the spark alive in the bedroom too. Even when it seems like too much work, even when you’re exhausted – there’s nothing like that intimate connection lovers share to remind one another just how in love you really are.
