Do you ever feel like your relationship has fallen into a bit of a slump? Like you do the same old thing day after day and it’s tough to find the passion. Whether you’ve been together for years or you’re newly dating, it’s easy to get into a routine that often starts to feel a bit dull. From finding ways to spice up the romance, to merely mixing up the day-to-day, getting out of a slump is easier than you think. And, no worries! It happens to even the best relationships.
Relationship Talk: Getting Out of a Slump
Make alone time a priority. Sometimes you get in the habit of rarely spending any time alone. Whether it’s kids, friends or even roommates, when your alone time dwindles, you start to feel like romance slipping away. Alone time is important to be sure you actually get the chance to have important conversations and privately bask in how much you like one another. Even if you’ve been together for years, being alone from time to time is essential for keeping the spark alive.
Put date nights on the calendar. It may sound silly to actually put date nights on the calendar, but is there really any other way to make sure they actually happen? Life is so busy, filled with after-school and weekend obligations – in order to have date night, you have to reserve the time. Schedule a date night once a week to be sure you’re setting special time aside just for each other.
Start a hobby together. There’s nothing better than learning about something or participating in activity together – especially when it’s something you love. If you’re both into exercise, take up training for a run. Or how about exploring your cooking talents together? Invest in a new cookbook and start working on some new recipes together. Maybe it’s learning a new language or taking up painting – whatever it is, having a hobby you both love is a great way to spend some quality time together.
Set aside some time each night to talk. Even if it’s when you’ve laid down in bed for the night after a busy day, taking the time to check in and debrief your day is essential to keeping the romance alive. Open lines of communication are the best way to make sure you’re on the same page, you understand one another and you know exactly what’s needed to stay happy and content.
Even if you can’t get out of the house, make the romance happen. If all else fails, a little romance at home is just what you need. Light some candles, put on some great tunes and enjoy some delicious take out at home. There’s nothing more wonderful than cuddling up on the couch and having a sweet night in. Sometimes, it’s all you need.
