Today marks the 85th birthday of sex bombshell and former actress Marilyn Monroe one of Hollywood’s leading ladies and a glamour queen. Known to be the iconic sex symbol of Hollywood, the actress was born Norma Jeane Mortenson, on June 1, 1926, in Los Angeles, California. A woman who loved deeply, and strove to perfect her craft, who was playful, funny and impossibly charming, Marilyn Monroe died a mysterious death at a very young age of 36. In spite of a very short tenure in the glamour world, made her work memorable for generations.
Monroe, a Gemini studied at UCLA and signed with Fox in 1946 for $125 per week, later on she was voted as Miss California Artichoke Queen 1947 and roamed with Shelley Winters during her early Hollywoods days. Monroe, was chosen as part of the original cast for the part of Holly Golighlty in Breakfast at Tiffany’s and her film ‘Some Like It Hot’ earned her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a comedy. Despite Marilyn’s film and television career perhaps what made Marilyn Monroe a sex symbol was her glamorous personality and blonde-bombshell and red lips signature look not to mention her ties in with former president John F Kennedy.
Once described as the ‘it’ girl in Hollywood by Life Magazine in 1952, Monroe ranked as the sixth greatest female star of all time by the American Film Institute. Unfortunately at young age of 36, Monroe died on August 5, 1962 at her Los Angeles home and officially ruled as a drug overdose. Today Monroe, the Hollywood glamour queen would have turned 85 today is the actress had lived.
