Did you know that annually, on September 22, the United States celebrates American Business Women’s Day? Intended to honor the accomplishments of American businesswomen, it began in 1982 and was “officially recognized by congressional proclamation in 1983 and again in 1986.” (via The Balance)
Started by the American Women’s Business Association, I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the accomplishments of women who have set forth into the business world or entrepreneurship. It’s a tough and harsh world out there, and when it comes to business, many women have to work twice as hard as their male counterparts to achieve the same salary, title and status. As an owner of a number of businesses, I can honestly say – the struggle is real. Success in business, especially for women, does not come easy – and that’s OK because the reward at the top feels twice as good.
September 22 is Business Women’s Day
Here’s a few facts about American Business Women’s Day via TheBalance.com
- American Business Women’s Day is a day set aside to honor and reflect upon the contributions and accomplishments of the millions of women in the workforce and the millions of women business owners in the U.S.
- The American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) was founded on September 22, 1949 “to bring together businesswomen of diverse occupations and to provide opportunities for them to help themselves and others grow personally and professionally through leadership; education, networking support and national recognition.”
- There is no counterpart day of celebration to specifically honor American businessmen which some argue is unfair to men, however, the day was not created to disregard the accomplishments of men, but simply to bring to light those made by women both known and not well known, who often do not get credit in day-to-day life for their contributions and accomplishments.
I am pretty excited to celebrate American Business Women’s Day, especially given all the strong business women I know and love in my own life. My own daughter, Amber, is a successful and rising star in the world of entrepreneurship. She has an idea and goes after it – and I love seeing her put it all into action. She’s a wife and a mom, but that doesn’t stop her from putting her business dreams into action.

My girl LaLa Anthony….she’s a busy mom, wife and business women on the go! She has made a name for herself in the entertainment industry and the cosmetics world – and I couldn’t be more proud of her.
One of my oldest friends, Eva Longoria – she’s rocking it in the entertainment industry, representing cosmetics companies, clothing companies, tech firms – you name it. She’s known for being one of the most business savvy women around and has even graced Forbes list of Top-Earning Women. She’s a total rock star.
