Human trafficking is a very concerning issue that is very dear to my heart. Yesterday while watching NBC’s Today show I came across this special segment on women sex slaves and the growing number of young women who are being misused on a daily basis. In 2003 the FBI launched an initiative dubbed Innocence Lost aimed at addressing the growing problem of domestic sex trafficking of children in the United States. The segment follow special agent Michael Giennon and tina, a woman who was trafficked at age 5 as they discuss the increasingly big business of selling you women and girls in this country. I am saddened by our society and concerned about the growing issue that is happening at this very moment in the US. Analysts say the number of young women sexually exploited in the U.S. or at risk of being exploited is between 100,000 and 300,000. With an estimated annual revenue of $32 billion, or about $87 million a day, law enforcement authorities, government agencies and others say human trafficking is tied with arms dealing as the world’s second-largest criminal enterprise, behind only drugs.
We have to be conscious of our society and the decisions that we make. It is important to love ourselves and know that there is help for every situation. There is a bigger matter at hand and us as parents and women must be an example to our leading generation.
