I first read about the waste-free lifestyle when I came across the blog Trash is for Tossers by Lauren Singer. She started her zero-waste lifestyle while studying Environmental Studies at school. She took her studies to heart and made small steps to her journey of a waste-free life. I’m so inspired by Lauren’s story. Aside from her blog, she also runs a business called Package Free where she sells reusable and recyclable products. Female entrepreneurs, take note. If you’re looking to reduce your waste, read on for some tips from Lauren on small ways to go waste-free. Enjoy!
Small Steps to Becoming Waste-Free
- Invest in some grocery totes, reusable jars, and bottles.
- Use alternatives to disposables like paper towels and aluminum sheets.
- Buy at the counter with jars and bottles for wet foods and liquids.
- Shop consignment.
- Refill bottles with bulk soap for the bathroom.
- Reduce your cosmetics, for some homemade substitutes.
- Use a reusable coffee cup; nixing does disposable ones.
- Eat less takeout. Less takeout means less disposable packaging.
- Skip out on a plastic straw.
- Learn to say “no” to the unnecessary.
Going waste-free isn’t going to be easy. It takes a lot of hard work and some money, but it works it for our environment.
