Not long ago, I featured some female empowerment advertisements and commercials that were truly changing the idea of female strength and power. Today, I want to bring you some of female empowerment campaigns that are doing something similar. They’re changing our idea of women in society and what it will really take for men and women to be equal. They’re eye opening and changing perspectives everywhere. Here are some of the most important campaigns that are creating change and breaking barriers for women and equality that will make you want to break that glass ceiling.
It Was Never A Dress- Not only will this campaign change the way we look at bathroom signs, it’s also changing the way that we look at female strength. Created by Tania Katan, an activist and author, this campaign is aimed at shifting perspectives and assumptions about women. By turning the regular “women’s” bathroom sign into a fighting super hero, Tania is forcing us to consider to true heroism of women everywhere.
‘No Cat Call Zone’- Ladies, we know first-hand how frustrating it is to feel objectified and unsafe on a daily basis. That’s why the nonprofit clothing store, Feminist Apparel, made official looking “cat-call free zone” signs all around New York streets. Not just to make a statement, but to help women feel safe while going on their regular day.
Change the Ratio- The truth is, equality won’t happen unless we start to make a change in areas that are most obvious. Rachel Sklar saw to change something herself by starting #ChangeTheRatio back in 2010. Her goal was to get women who were making a difference in tech and media, some visibility within the mainstream. Now it’s finally starting to take off, as the discussion of women in tech is becoming one that is being had more frequently.
