Life Lessons: The Importance of “Me Time”

This is another one from the blog archives. I love coming across things I’ve written in the past and reflecting on whether I still feel that way (it’s actually one of the reasons I think journaling is so important – it helps you check in with yourself). This is an article I wrote leading up to International Convention. I am now finding myself in the same situation of planning and preparing for the event while also trying to strike some balance. Balance is truly essential. Which is why I find the concept of “me time” so crucial. However you choose to define that concept, make sure you allow some time for it. Otherwise, you can find yourself feeling a bit stretched thin. Read ahead for my original article on “me time.” I hope it rings true for you. xoxo

Deep thought. Good for the soul.

Between planning for the Market America Convention (only three weeks away!), and overseeing Motives, Loren Jewels and Cellular Laboratories my days get can a little, well, hectic. Oh, and let’s not forget being a mother and a wife, which can be a full-time job in itself! And although it’s easy to get wrapped up in the day-to-day stuff, I constantly try to remind myself that I am in control of my life, and not the other way around. More often than not, I have to tell myself: “Hey life, wait a moment. I need a
break.”

After I decide to take a moment for myself, I do tend to feel guilty. I think that if I take a break I could be letting someone down: my daughter, my husband or my friends. What if when I’m taking a break someone needs me? But then, I quickly remember that it is in everyone’s benefit that I take that much needed “me time.” If I continue to ignore my need to take a break, I’ll become exhausted and frustrated, which will lead me to perform poorly. And who wants that? The only way I can be the best mom, the best wife, the best friend, the best boss is by being the best me. And this “me” could use a little rest and relaxation from time to time!

I must admit, my “me time” doesn’t necessarily mean “alone time.” I truly enjoy being around people, so when I do teak a break, I usually take someone along with me. And we usually go for walks, go shopping, have dinners with friends & family, get a massage or hang out on our boat Utopia III. Ah, I feel relaxed just thinking about it!

So what are your favorite “me time” activities? let me know @lorenridinger or leave me a comment!
