I have a love-hate relationship with the infamous cat eye flick. It seems that no one can get their cat eyeliner just right, especially when it comes to using liquid eye liner— well, unless you’re a Motives Maven. Those girls have so many ways to get your cat liner perfect, but the truth is, you have to find the technique that’s right for you. Here are some tips that have helped me when I don’t exactly have a makeup artist or Maven on hand.
The Scotch Tape Trick- I always seem to mess up my liner when I’m free handing it. That’s why I sometimes lean on this trick a little too much, but honestly, anything helps. Here’s how it works: rip out a piece of Scotch tape; an inch long should do. Stick it onto the back of your hand and then rip it off to get some of the stickiness off it. Remember, this is going on your face and near your delicate eye area, so you want to be as careful as possible. Next, take your small piece of Scotch tape and place it at an angle to map out where you want the flick of your cat liner to go. You want to create the flick with your liner pencil against the Scotch tape. Remove the tape and marvel at your sharp looking cat eye.
The Stamp and Go Technique- Here’s how to do this easy trick that I learned from Wayne Goss, YouTube celebrity. Basically what you do is you take your liquid liner pencil and lay it on an angle against your eye. You stamp where you want the flick to go. After, you want to trace in the rest of your eye with your eyeliner. Viola, a perfect cat eye flick.
Use Eye shadow- Getting a grip on that liquid liner pencil is what’s really tough sometimes. That’s why laying something down before you reach for that liquid liner helps tremendously. For this trick, all you need is a small angled brush and some matte black eye shadow. Dip your brush into your eye shadow, create that cat flick s and then go in with a steady hand and your liquid liner pencil to really make it pop. Yup, it’s that easy.
Cotton Swab- Getting that liner just right can get messy, especially if the two cat flicks don’t match up. That’s why a cotton swab can come in handy during moments when your flick looks less cat-like and more glob-like.
