Tips for Planning a Fall Family Reunion

6 Tips for Planning a Family Reunion

1. Set a date & send out invites – Reach out to the head of each family to see which dates work best for everyone and give ample time for planning.

2. Plan activities – Plan something fun, for both the kids and the adults. Music and dancing are always enjoyed by all ages. But crafting, sports, and outdoor games are always a plus.

3. Designate a photographer –  You’ll want to capture all the special moments throughout the day. Try to also take portraits of each relative for future scrapbooking, storytelling, and family tree designs. Be sure to also get a group shot of everyone together.

4. Have a sign-in book – Have everyone sign their name and a short message with the date on a polaroid picture for a fun, visual keepsake in a scrapbook. Or try sketching out a tree with branches and have guests stamp a thumbprint in place of leaves alongside their name.

5. Make it a potluck – Have everyone contribute a dish they’re particularly proud of. This takes the pressure off just one person putting the menu together. Make sure to keep a running list online (Evite and Paperless Post work quite well) where everyone can see what’s on the menu to avoid doubling up. For dessert, different flavored pies always hit the spot. Have volunteers make their favorite version of pumpkin, pecan, apple, or blueberries.

6. Keep things fun – Don’t take it too seriously. Remember that you’re gathered to have a great time, make some memories, and reconnect.
