What Your Sleep Positions May Say About Your Relationship

Have you ever noticed that you and your partner sleep the same way every night? That you each have your comfortable spot in the bed and you settle in nightly without even thinking twice about which direction to turn. Perhaps you sleep spooned up together or maybe you’re turned in the opposite direction, craving a bit of your own space. Do you ever wonder what these positions mean and why you crave cozying up in the same spot every night. Seems wild, but if you think about it – your true self is revealed in your sleep. Your guard is down and you’re at your most comfortable – this level of comfort can reveal a lot about your relationship. Here’s a look at what you and your partners sleep positions say about your relationship.

Spooning. This is a pretty common sleeping position for many couples – especially new couples who are still feeling out their relationship. It exudes a sense of physical closeness and reaffirms that the level of contact between two people that’s both comforting and erotic.

The Tetherball. This is when you each need your own space, but you still want to feel close to each other with the sense of touch. You may be incredibly independent people, but you’re willing to compromise on certain things and you’re a strong couple that comes together when it counts.

The Honeymoon Hug. This is a pretty close position – in some ways even more snuggly and close than spooning – it’s like spooning, but facing one another. This position may be how you find yourselves after making love – it’s intimate and super close. If you sleep like that every night and all night long, you may be incredibly dependent on each other.

The Cliffhanger. Even though you sleep on opposite sides of the bed, you’re still madly in love, you just know you need to get the best night’s sleep you can. You’ve probably been together for quite a while, you’re pretty comfortable and, while this could be a sign that you’re experiencing some distance in your relationship, you may also just really need a solid night sleep.

How do you and your partner snuggle in for the night? Do you think it defines your relationship?
