Mindful eating is more about knowing what foods are good for you, using your senses in choosing what to eat, learning about hunger, and how to satisfy your hunger. It’s interesting once you get down to the root core of it. I want to teach you to become a mindful eater. Listen to your body and satisfy your cravings the right way! Read on to learn more on what it takes to become a mindful eater and let me know what you think in the comments below.
What it Takes to Become a Mindful Eater
Stop Eating When Full- We’ve all done this. I know I’m guilty of this. When the food is delicious, we keep on eating beyond past full ignoring our body’s signals to stop. You have to let your body catch up with your brain, which means slowing down. The body actually sends its satiation signal about 20 minutes after the brain, which is why we often unconsciously overeat. That’s why we have to slow down a little. Give your body time to work.
Why Are You Eating?- Are you eating as an emotional response or because you’re hungry? An emotional response could be anything, which is why you have to listen to your body. Is your stomach growling, or are you just bored? Do you have low energy or do you want a snack because your mom made snacks at this time? It takes some getting used to, but you can get there!
Focus on Your Meal- This day in age, it’s hard not to do anything without a phone in our hands. I love my phone, but I also know that when it’s time to eat it’s important to put my phone away, focus on my loved ones and enjoy. Eating while distracted is a sure-fire way to throw mindful eating out the window. Mealtime is a time for me to enjoy my family and my meal. When I’m distracted, it’s harder for me to focus on my body’s responses to food, so I do my best to focus. Put away the phone, people!
