When Your Desires Change

Have any of you ever reached a point in your career or in
life where you find yourself saying, “but I thought this is what I wanted?”
Maybe you spent the last four years trying to reach a goal, yet when you
arrived you realized it’s not what you want, at all.  This type of realization
is enough to through anyone into a small anxiety attack!

How is this possible? A year ago you were certain you wanted
to work for a non-profit organization.  Once you landed the job, you realized
the pay was too little and the politics too large.  I like to think of these
moments as small epiphanies. Or perhaps an “a-ha moment.”  By finding out what
we don’t want, we are closer to what we do want.  Pay attention to the things
you don’t agree with anymore.  When our desires change, it only means we are
growing.  For example, what we wanted from a partner in college is very
different from what we wanted from a partner in our 30s.  You know what I mean?

We are forever evolving creatures.  We must not be scared of
change, but instead embrace it and acknowledge the fact that we are simply
growing spiritually.  And isn’t that the goal in life?  To continuously grow and
get closer to our life’s purpose?

When our desires change, we automatically feel lost.  Because
are path has just taken us off the map we’ve been creating for the past few
years or so.  And the truth is a lot of us are scared of change.  We like
roadmaps and structure—they’re so easy to follow! But once you get over that
initial fear, you open yourself to endless opportunities that will lead you to
happiness.  Embrace life’s surprises, they tend to lead us to the best
destinations.

Love,

Loren
