Between texting, tweeting and blogging, some may say we’ve
lost the form of writing. But that’s not the type of writing I’d like to talk
about today. I’d like to talk about the writing that is an expression of all
that runs in our mind and our heart.
Writing down everything that is swimming around in my head
is such a release. I rather have it on paper than have it just floating around.
Once it’s on paper, it’s out to the world. It’s like letting the thought go to
run free and see what it will become.
Think of the times you have something to say to someone your
upset with. Maybe an ex-boyfriend or a sibling. A lot of the times what we want
to say is just a matter of releasing what is bottled up inside them. We want to
say things to make ourselves feel better, not so much because it will better
the other person or the situation. I’m a true believer that when this happens,
it’s better to write it down on paper first. Write the letter then sit on it
for 24 hours. Read it over again and see if it’s worth saying these words out loud.
Most of times, it’s not worth it but you feel better just writing it.
Writing your thoughts down also helps to show you how much
you’ve improved or how time heals all. For example, let’s say you’re having a
hard time trying to find a new job. Write down your struggles. Six months from
now when you have a new position, you’ll be able to read back to the tough time
and realize that things worked out. Next time you’re going through a rough
time, you’ll know that with time things will figure themselves out.
Write down your thoughts and see what comes out. Not only
will it offer clarity, but insight as well. Enjoy!
