Every now and then, taking a break at work is not just a treat, it’s an absolute must. A quick pause for a few minutes in your day can make all the difference for your stress and mental health. Just because you’re at your desk, doesn’t mean you can’t take a moment to stretch and give your body a much-needed adjustment. Take a look at these stretches for a quick yoga-at-work moment.
Yoga at Work: Simple Stretches at Your Desk
Here’s a great guideline for some chair yoga moves you can easily incorporate into your busy day. Pin it and keep it for later reference:
Some things to keep in mind when practicing yoga in general are:
1. Wear comfortable clothing. If you’re wearing a suit or a more restricted work outfit, then get a little more comfortable by removing your jacket, shoes, and any obstructive jewelry.
2. Cycle your breathing. Remember to inhale and exhale as you go through each sequence, allowing your body to fully enjoy the stretch with a deep, long breath.
3. Don’t do it if it hurts. The idea is to get a good stretch and see how far your body can go. But if any certain move causes you pain, try to adjust your stretch to where you can handle it. There’s no need to rush into achieving a certain move. That will come with time and practice.
4. Take your time. Even if it’s at work, honoring those five or ten minutes you can devote to your practice is essential. Don’t check your phone, email or answer calls when you’re doing this. Honor the time you’ve allotted to this and don’t rush your stretches.
