Your Guide to Social Media Privacy Settings

As social media use continues to expand and gain popularity, privacy concerns are on the rise. From sharing details about your personal life to merging web-based accounts, your private information runs the risk of being exposed. As you continue to open accounts on more social platforms, there’s a lot more involved when it comes to staying in the know– and that can feel pretty daunting. If you’re concerned about social media privacy, the first step is making sure you’re informed.  Take note of these settings to make sure you’re comfortable with your level of privacy.

Your Guide to Social Media Privacy Settings

Single access sign-on. Some platforms will allow you to sign-on in one spot, rather than two. Make sure you understand what this means and where your information will be stored.

Data privacy. You might think your data only belongs to you, but information is often shared with third-party providers. Make sure you’re in touch with the varied privacy laws for each different social media site you enroll in.

Merging accounts. When you merge accounts (for example: Facebook and Twitter), you run the risk of one platform accessing your information from another. If you’re uncomfortable with that – skip the merge. Otherwise make sure you’re aware of privacy policies on both platforms.

Do you get nervous about social media privacy or do you feel totally comfortable with all of the policies out there?
