If you’ve been waiting for ABC’s “The View” to bring in a new conservative voice, wait no longer. Variety announced that Meghan McCain, daughter of longtime U.S. Senator John McCain, will join hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sara Haines, Paula Faris, and Sunny Hostin starting in early October. McCain is filling the vacancy left behind by Jedediah Bila who left the show in mid-September.
Meghan McCain Joins Cast of “The View”
CNN first reported the possibility that the republican author would be the newest member of the daytime panel series after she announced her departure from “Outnumbered,” a series on Fox News featuring four female commentators and one male guest host. The four women and the outnumbered guy would discuss the topics of the day, much like the ladies do daily on “The View.”
“I’m so thankful to Fox News for the chance to be on ‘Outnumbered,’ but I’m leaving to focus on other things,” McCain said in a statement at the time. “I have no doubt the show will continue to do well and wish all my friends and colleagues at the network nothing but success.”
McCain departed the right-wing network after her father was diagnosed with brain cancer after it was discovered during a blood clot removal from his left eye.
The author will be filling a seat that has seen its share of women throughout the years. After Barbara Walters retired in 2014, audiences have seen Rosie O’Donnell, Nicolle Wallace, Rosie Perez, Raven Symone, Michelle Collins and Candace Cameron Bure. It’s rumored that ABC is looking to for McCain to bring as much attention as conservative Elisabeth Hasselbeck during her brief yet controversial stint in 2013.
