Within the fashion industry, there are many designers with talent and creativity. But few are as gifted with grace and foresight as the legendary Oscar de la Renta. Last night, the world-renown fashion designer passed away at the age of 82. The Dominican-born artist dressed some of the most recognizable women in the world, including every first lady since Jacqueline Kennedy, making him a household name synonymous with glamour, elegance and sophistication.
His designs celebrated women in all their beauty. As he often said, “My role as a designer is to make a woman feel her very best.” And that he did. His final project was dressing Amal Alamuddin for her wedding to George Clooney. And today, though I’m deeply saddened to learn of his passing, I’d like to take this opportunity to remember and celebrate his life and achievements. You will be missed, Mr. De la Renta, but what a legacy you leave behind.
