It’s being reported that Marissa Mayer is making her first big move as new Yahoo! CEO by purchasing blogging site Tumblr for $1.1 billion. The merger is said to be beneficial for both parties, {hopefully} making Yahoo! more relevant to a younger audience and giving Tumblr resources to monetize the site.
Many Tumblr users have taken to social media to share in their disappointment with David Karp for selling to Yahoo!, however the CEO said in a statement: , “Our team isn’t changing. Our roadmap isn’t changing. And our mission – to empower creators to make their best work and get it in front of the audience they deserve – certainly isn’t changing. But we’re elated to have the support of Yahoo! and their team who share our dream to make the Internet the ultimate creative canvas. Tumblr gets better faster with more resources to draw from.”
Marissa Mayer released a statement of her own, tweeting “We promise not to screw it up.”
The Yahoo Tumblr acquisition is also the first ever to be announced by the ever-popular gif, seen below.
