As social media advances and more and more apps appear, things can get a bit confusing. The one app I’ve noticed most people are most intimidated by is Snapchat. The main questions I’ve heard include, ‘Do I really need another app?’ ‘What makes Snapchat so special?’
I contacted Social Media Influencer and Marketing Executive Jose Resendez to help us learn why this app an important addition to our arsenal of social media tools.
Top 5 Reasons Why You Need Snapchat in Your Social Media Arsenal
Here’s Jose’s breakdown of information on Snapchat:
Storytelling – It’s called Snapchat Story for a reason, make sure you are connecting your snaps to a larger story theme in order to keep your audience engaged & looking forward to your next snap. Think of your daily snap life as a reality show, every day (or occasion) could be seen as an episode into your life, so make sure there’s a beginning & an end, just like a story.
Engagement – Don’t just put out content, have fun with your snaps by snapping a call-to-action, yes, instructions. For example, ask your followers to screenshot the next snap in order to get them to save that info to their camera rolls, could be a promo code, a coupon, or a QR code.
Creativity – Take advantage of the cool features on the app that enable you to customize pictures & videos. You can add text, you can make the text whatever size you want, you can change the color of this text. You can apply a filter, you can apply double-filter sometimes. Use emojis, stickers, & bitmojis to add character to your snaps. Try telling a whole story in black & white to give it a dramatic or artistic look.
Filters – Filters are everywhere, from geo-locations, sponsored brand filters, venue filters, to holiday filters & face-detecting lenses. But did you know you could create your own filter for your event, your birthday, or for your local business? It’s actually very simple & super affordable, go to Snapchat’s website, upload the artwork to their specs, select date/time, then radius range, & voila, you’ll be the coolest kid on the block.
Followers – Snapchat is one of the most difficult platforms to get followers on but don’t let that discourage you, an earned follower is well earned, quality over quantity comes into play here. Your account comes with 3 identities: 1.) Your QR code, 2.) Your username, 3.) Your Direct URL. Use all 3 of these elements to help promote your account outside of snap, use them on other social platforms. Pro-tip: Print stickers of your QR code to leave in high-traffic places or print your code on to your business card.
