How to Clean Jewelry at Home
1. How to Clean Gold – Gentle liquid dish soap will do the trick for cleaning your gold jewelry. Drop some soap in a bowl of warm water, mix the solution and allow your jewelry to sit for 15 minutes. Follow up with a soft tooth brush to remove any dirt and grime before blotting dry with a soft, dry cloth.
2. How to Clean Silver – If silver jewelry has tarnished past the point of cleaning with a dry, soft cloth, try using toothpaste as a polish. Use a plain, white toothpaste without the whitening agent on a damp, soft sponge or cloth to buff and polish the jewelry. Use as much as necessary to remove the stains before rinsing with warm water and towel drying.
3. How to Clean Pearls – Pearls are very delicate and should be cared for with the lightest touch. Never use any cleaners with ammonia or harsh detergents. Instead, use a soft, lint-free cloth to polish either dry or with a very mild soap and warm water. Allow pearls to dry before putting them away.
4. How to Clean Precious Stones – For silver and gold pieces with precious stones, use a solution of mild dish detergent in warm water. Soak the pieces for up to 30 minutes, then remove and gently scrub away any build-up with a soft toothbrush. Delicately blot dry with a soft cloth.
