Have you heard about the new partnership between American Express and Twitter? Earlier this week, Twitter announced they are breaking into the e-commerce world with pay-per-tweets! You can now make purchases via Twitter by using a special hashtag; essentially Twitter will be like an online shopping cart.
Here’s how it works: The relationship is actually only with American Express, so if you are an Amex cardholder, you’ll have to sync your card with your Twitter account. Once you’re all signed up and your card is registered, you can make purchases by tweeting a particular hashtag. You’ll then receive a confirmation tweet from the @AmexSync account with a special hashtag confirming the purchase.

Doesn’t this sound wild? The collaboration kicked off when they offered a single product at a significant discount: a $25 Amex giftcard for just $15. The program will continue this way, just with a variety of discounted products. From the sound of it, the first products to hit Twitter shelves will be: a Kindle Fire, an X-Box and a Donna Karan bracelet, just to name a few.
What do you think of this new tweet-buying phenomenon? Will you sign up?
