Why Isn’t My Social Media Following Growing?

So you’ve been working hard to build your business’ following on Facebook and Twitter, but nothing seems to work? Don’t fret, you might just be committing a few rookie mistakes. Here are five tips to help bring
up those followers.

  1. You’re being too promotional:

People may, in fact, spot following you if they feel like they’re being spammed all day. Remember, your followers
are being bombarded by marketing messages all day from all angles. Offer some marketing info, but also offer insightful content that your followers will find useful. Service them.

  1. How often do you update?:

There’s a fine line between not updating enough and updating way too much. You must fine that balance. Try to
update at least a few times a week and daily (2-4 times) if possible.

  1. Your interaction is weak:

If you’re not responding to tweets, messages, comments, etc., people are going to stop following. Interact with
your followers. Comment and tweet at other people. Be social. It’s not just called social media!

  1. What’s your purpose?

Most people follow brands for deals or first-looks on new items. What are you offering your followers? If you do
not offer any value, people will not want to follow you. Give them something special via your Twitter and Facebook page that they won’t be able to find anywhere else.

  1. You’re not getting the word out about your social media platforms:

Just because you have a Facebook page, Twitter account, or a presence of Foursquare doesn’t mean people are
going to find you. Make sure every communication you have with customers (newsletters, emails, website, business cards), you mention where else they can find you. And offer a link when possible.
