There’s pretty much nothing as fun as settling in on a Sunday night to watch an awards show – and the VMA’s….one of the best around. Not only do I look forward to checking out all of the awesome celeb and red carpet fashion, but the music! The performances! The speeches! You just never know what might happen at one of these. And, this year – it was all about Beyonce. She took over the stage with the performance of a lifetime and I have to admit, I couldn’t take my eyes off of her. It was incredible. Here’s a roundup of a few of my favorite moments from the night:
Here’s what the NY Times had to say about Beyoncé’s unforgettable performance:
Beyoncé made her 16 minutes a blast of wrath, strength, righteousness and female solidarity. The songs came from her 2016 album “Lemonade,” punctuated (as on the “visual album” version of “Lemonade”) with excerpts from poetry by Warsan Shire that framed and deepened them. Videos from the album were showered with awards, but they were just a sideshow to Beyoncé’s vivid live performance.

Kanye West also took to the stage, using the time to talk and showcase his latest video. “Looking relaxed, he touched on issues but didn’t fixate. Instead, he gave half of his time to the premiere of a new music video, “Fade,” a dance piece starring Teyana Taylor. The sweaty, retro gym choreography — a homage to “Flashdance” — had a vibe reminiscent of the glory days of MTV.” (via NY Times)

It was also fun to have Michael Phelps on stage in an honest revelation of what inspired his #PhelpsFace that has been all over the web and social media since the Rio Olympics.
“Remember in Rio when I made that face that ended up all over the internet? I was in the zone, with Future’s track ‘Stick Talk’ blaring in my headphones.”
This one is for you bro!! Fun night !! #vmas

And, the highlight of the night for me? My girl Alicia Keys going fresh-faced (no makeup) and looking absolutely gorgeous. “Shunning make-up and wearing a stunning maxi-dress, the singer outshone everyone else with her inspiring message. With all the outlandish outfits on display at this year’s MTV VMAs, it takes guts to stand out from the crowd. And that’s exactly what Alicia Keys did as she stepped out onto the white carpet, glowing without a scrap of make-up sending out a message more powerful than anything seen on the carpet before.” (via Mirror.Co UK)

It really was an excellent show, one I look forward to every year – this year’s VMA’s did not disappoint, What was your favorite moment from last night’s performances?
