Did you know that Americans waste more food than any other country? Yup, in the USA we waste 30-40% of our food supply which is 20 lbs of food per person per month. That’s a lot of food, ladies. It’s time that we shop smarter, consume consciously and waste less. Let’s start at the root with our grocery shopping habits. Below are tips to help you grocery shop a little smarter. Stop wasting food and check them out. Be sure to leave me a comment down below. Do you shop consciously? Let me know!
Forget Your Weekly Trips- Stop planning massive shopping trips, If you think about it, it doesn’t really make sense to hoard so much food in our kitchens. You need to take into account random dinner invitations and lunches with friends. What happens then? Your groceries end up rotting in the fridge. Come on, no one wants that!
Think Like a European- When Europeans want to cook a meal, they go shopping for groceries rather than plan ahead. Make shorter trips throughout the week rather than one big trip like Europeans. It saves you food and keep items like veggies fresher than ever.
Consider a Food Service- If you don’t have time to head to the grocery store three times a week, then think about using a food service like Instacart or Peapod. Even Shop has got it’s grocery section. Check it out!
Frozen Foods- Invest in some frozen foods. There’s no shame in it. Why not enjoy frozen vegetables like peas, or fruits like strawberries? Their easy to use and new flash freeze technology keeps them fresh as they thaw. How great is that?
Keep A List- Shop consciously and keep a list or have a recipe in mind. Keep the ingredients on hand so you get just what you need while at the grocery store. This also helps prevent wandering off to grab something that will end up wasting away in the fridge.
Happy shopping!
