10 Ways to Wake Up and Feel Good

Waking up is hard to do when you’re not much of a morning person. To help make your mornings just a little bit better, here are some tips to make you fall asleep better and wake up feeling good.

The night before:

  1. Stay Away From- Stay away from coffee, red wine and chocolate before you go to sleep. Why? These foods will upset your stomach, leaving you with a light sleep rather than a deep sleep that will help you to feel recharged when you wake up.
  2. Relax- Try to calm down before going to bed. Try writing in your journal, meditating, stretching or praying before bed. Doing these things can help you let go of the day’s worries and feel more relaxed as you dose off into a deep sleep.
  3. Open Your Windows- Sleeping with your windows open during the night has some great benefits. This helps to regulate the temperature of your room, while allowing new oxygen in, helping you to breathe easy.
  4. Be Consistent- It’s important to go to sleep at the same time and wake up at the same time every day. Doing this gives you a pattern and makes your body wake up at the same time everyday, ensuring you the right amount of sleep.
  5. Silence is Golden- Cut the noise out of your nighttime routine. Try to keep a white noise machine or a fan on so you don’t hear what’s going on outside of your window. Hearing too much noise during sleep wakes us up and gives us a bad night’s sleep.

The morning after:

  1. Meditate- Wake up, prop yourself on a pillow and give yourself a moment of relaxation before you start your day. Take a few deep breaths.
  2. Stay Grateful- Remind yourself of 5 things you feel exceptionally grateful for as you walk to the bathroom to brush your teeth.
  3. Stay Present- As you start your day, focus on the world around you. Try to stay in the present moment. Focus on brushing your teeth, and putting on your exercise clothes, rather than fantasizing about something else. Stay in the present moment, and watch as life unfolds.
  4. Exercise- When you wake up and feel groggy in the morning, a good workout can help make you feel more alert and focused. Go for a run or a yoga session. Make your heart beat and get the fresh air you deserve.
  5. Get Out of Bed- Don’t lay in bed pondering about things that don’t matter. Get out of bed the moment you wake up to seize the day. It’ll help you to feel more alert.
