3 Ways to Redefine Personal Beauty

There have been quite a few headlines over the course of the last year about redefining beauty in terms of being able to go makeup free or learning to love yourself curves and all – and much of that has affected me deeply. It’s easy to get caught up in that world of wanting to be your most fit, having your makeup be on point all of the time and falling into the trap of comparing yourself to those around you, but what if you stepped back for just a minute.

3 Ways to Redefine Personal Beauty

What if you took the time to look yourself and the mirror and say – today I am going to appreciate myself – flaws and all – for exactly who I am? Today I am going to redefine my own personal beauty because I am only going to compare myself to me. It sounds like a challenge, but freeing and beautiful all at once, don’t you agree? So why don’t we make a pact? Let’s all do this together. Let’s all find ways to redefine our personal beauty, starting by leaving criticism at the door. Here are a few thoughts on where to start – and as you redefine your personal beauty, be sure to add your ideas to this list too.

#1. Loving your body. That sounds like it should be so simple. But, you know what – it’s probably more difficult for many of us than any other challenge around. It goes without saying that the pressures of society have certainly played a role in how we see ourselves; how we see our own bodies when we look in the mirror. And, we’ve also been unconsciously trained to compare ourselves to the magazine and catwalk models. But, we have to stop. It’s as simple as that. It’s time to put that stuff aside, remember that we only live once and just strive to be the best we can be.

#2. Make peace with your curves (or lack thereof!). No matter what body type you have, getting caught in the trap of never being happy with it is no way to live! Rather than worrying about being too curvy or not curvy enough, work with what you’ve got. Be proud of what you’ve got and embrace the fact that living your best life doesn’t mean being unhappy with your body. So, keep up the good work – treat your body right with lots of exercise, healthy foods and staying hydrated – and then just embrace what you’ve got. Stand tall. Be proud.

#3. Just remember that every freckle, every line, every inch of you is unique – and, that’s the best part about being you. Take some time to look in the mirror and I mean really look yourself in the eye – and make a list of all the parts of you that you love. Maybe you have bright blue eyes, or really beautiful lashes and rosy cheeks. Maybe your biceps are super defined or the curve of your hips is just right. Maybe you have really soft skin, or a glowing tan – whatever it is – find five things you love about your body and write them down. Remember them. Remember that those features make you, you. You’re stunning in ways that are different from every other person on this earth – and, that is fantastic.

So what do you think? Can you redefine your personal beauty? Can you change your mindset to embrace your curves, find your unique features and simply love your body? I know you can and I’ll be right there with you.
