Best at Home Hair Dye

There are so many things worth saving money for like a new designer bag or those gorgeous heels you’ve been eyeing. So, if you can save on hair color so you can splurge elsewhere, I say why not. Experimenting with hair color is so much fun that sometimes having it done at the salon is cost prohibitive. But with some great products and a few tips from the pros, a little DIY can work out pretty well. No matter what you’re looking to achieve – highlights, beachy blonde or even low lights, here’s a look at the best at home hair dye to get you started.

John Frieda Precision Foam Colour: The consistency of this product is a lot like mousse, so it’s super easy to manage and apply. The foamy substance is pretty simple to spread evenly and make sure you don’t miss any spots. Tip: don’t panic – it changes color as you wait for it to process.

Garnier Olia Oil Powered Permanent Color: This color isn’t going anywhere with its oil-based solution. It’s shiny, long-lasting and offers a deep rich color – just like at the salon. Mineral and sunflower seed oils replace the typical ammonia, leaving your hair shiny and conditioned. The oil base also makes this one easy to apply. Tip: if you’re going for a deep color (like red) this is a great option.

Revlon Luxurious ColorSilk Buttercream: The name says it all with this one, it smells great (like tropical mango and coconut), while going on just like cream. If you have dry or damaged hair, this product will do double-duty for you – offering great conditioning treatment and flawless overall color. Tip: if you’re looking for a more highlighted effect, this might not be the best option for you. But if you want gorgeous, overall color this is an excellent option.

Clairol Nice ‘n Easy Color Blend Foam: If you’re a first timer, this kit is probably the one for you. The foam formula is dripless, making it super simple to apply. With excellent easy-to-follow instructions, just follow along for great, natural looking results. Tip: definitely don’t skip the conditioning step, it will leave your locks nice and shiny.

L’Oreal Paris Feria Wild OmbreThis awesome hair dye kit is perfect for first timers as it’s cream-based and doesn’t drip. While most of us have left complex ombre looks to the pros, this is pretty easy for getting that grown out highlight effect at home. Tip: avoid bleaching your clothing by throwing a towel over your shoulders.
