It’s officially summer, and you know what that means? Your feet are out and about for the whole world to see. From hitting the poolside parties barefoot to rockin’ your favorite summer sandals or espadrilles, your feet are on display all season long. If this is the first time your toes are seeing the light of day all year, it’s time to give your feet a little pampering – and maybe some polishing up too. From pedicures to foot massages, here’s a look at four simple ways to pamper your feet this summer.
4 Simple Ways to Pamper Your Feet
#1. Bring the spa home. There’s nothing better after a long day at the office or even a long walk on the beach than giving your feet a little soak. Not only does it do wonders for relieving tension, it also helps perk those babies up! One of the most time-tested traditions is actually the best way to go – fill up a bowl or basin, big enough for both your feet, with warm water. Add a heaping scoop of Epsom salt and soak away! Add a bit of peppermint or lavender oil and you’ll be transported to a spa in a faraway land. Once you’re finished soaking (about 20 minutes or so), load up on the moisturizer and you’re good to go.
#2. Create your own natural exfoliator. Blending together honey, raw sugar, peppermint oil and coconut oil, mix up a special exfoliating treatment just for your feet. Gentle rub the mixture on dry spots – like heels and the bottoms of your feet to get everything smooth – and looking great. Rinse with warm water, moisturize and you’ll be amazed at just how soft your feet are.
#3. Whiten toe nails that have started to yellow. It happens to all of us from wearing too much polish for too long – your nails start to turn a tinge of yellow – and that’s no good! Believe it or not you can give your nails a little whitening treatment with whitening toothpaste! Simply spread it on the yellowed nails and elevate your feet for 20 minutes or so – use the time to read a book or catch up on your favorite magazine. So relaxing! Rinse and you’re ready to go.
#4. Give yourself a DIY pedicure. If you can’t make it to the nail salon – no worries! Just go ahead using all the treatments listed above and be sure to give those nails a good trim. Once everything is trimmed up, use an emery board to soften the edges and get all your nails even and straight across. Also be sure to moisturize, trim and clean up cuticles. If painting nails isn’t easy for you, just go with a coat of clear polish. But, if you’re skilled with nail polish – go for it!
