It’s that time of year again: when the flip flops are retired for fall booties, loafers and rain boots. As you pack up your summer shoe collection, it’s time to get real about the state of your feet. Despite the lingering tan, it’s been a long summer at the beach – in sandals and even barefoot – so how are those heels looking? Probably a bit cracked, but definitely dry, right? As we move deeper into the cooler seasons, it’s time to get those dry feet under control – and give them the pampering they deserve. Here’s a look at some of the best natural solutions out there for giving dry heels a little love.
5 Natural Solutions for Dry Heels
#1. Vegetable Oil (of any sort). Just hit the pantry a couple evenings a week and massage any type of vegetable oil into your heels right before bed. Olive oil, coconut oil, sesame oil – pick your favorite. Taking the time to massage heels with a bit of oil before bed will give them all night long to soak up the love.
#2. Lemons. Using warm water with a bit of lemon juice added, soak the feet for 10 minutes or so. Follow that up scrubbing heels with a pumice stone or exfoliating brush. Pat dry. The acid in the lemons is great for softening the hard and rough skin on heels that eventually ends up cracking.
#3. Jojoba oil & Oatmeal. This is a pretty simple one, but it works. Mix up dry oatmeal and a jojoba oil until you have a thick paste. Spread all over cracked and dry heels – let it sink in for about 30 minutes. Rinse and pat dry.
#4. Fruit. A fruit mask sounds a little funny, but the enzymes in some fruits are amazing for penetrating the rough and dry skin that leads to cracked heels. Papayas and bananas work best. Simply mash the fruit until you have a soft paste, apply to heels and let it sit for at least 10-15 minutes. Rinse and repeat daily for great results.
#5. Milk & Honey. Sounds delicious, doesn’t it? Using 1 part honey and 2 parts milk, mix together in a bowl or basin big enough for soaking your feet. Soak for about 15 minutes and occasionally massage the heels throughout. Rinse off and pat dry for super moisturized feet.
