Do you ever find yourself sitting at the computer stretching your sore wrists? Are your hands a bit tingly at the end of the day? If you spend a lot of your time typing at a computer, you may be at risk for carpal tunnel syndrome. Sometimes repetitive activity, like typing, causes the nerve at the base of the hand to become squeezed. (The carpal tunnel is the narrow passageway where that nerve lives.) If you have a small carpal tunnel, you may be more likely to develop carpal tunnel syndrome, but in general women are much more prone. Help yourself stop it before it starts with these 5 tips for preventing carpal tunnel syndrome.
5 Tips for Preventing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
- Try an ergonomic keyboard – it will help you type with your hands in a more natural position.
- Use a pad to prop your wrists up while you type or use a mouse.
- Rearrange your desk. Adjust your chair and organize your space so that you don’t have to reach too far for your phone, mouse or keyboard.
- Give a vertical mouse a shot – this will be more comfortable for your wrist.
- Stretch! Take lots of breaks throughout the day and stretch those wrists!
