There’s nothing worse than spending a whole bunch of time getting your makeup just perfect for that big night out and ending up with smudged lipstick. It’s on your face or (worse!) on your teeth – and your gorgeous look goes from stunning to haggard in an instant. Not your best moment, right?? If you’ve had it with landing more lipstick on your water glass than on your lips, or you just can’t figure out how to get that perfect red to stay put, keep reading for a few tips to keep your lipstick and lip gloss from running.
5 Tips to Keep Your Lip Gloss from Running
1. Get your lips lipstick ready. Just like the rest of the face, lips need a bit of prep before that bright color is applied. Stay on top of cracked and chapped lips by using a sugar scrub or other lip exfoliant to get rid of any flaky or dead skin. (Tip: Motives® Lip Pumice works great for this!)
2. Add some liner to the mix. While this might feel a bit heavy for some, lip liner is an excellent way to keep it all in place and inside the lines. If liner feels heavy to you – gently brush it on for a lighter approach.
3. Use powder to hold it all in place. You’re thinking – “whoa, what? Powder on my lips?” After applying your color, don’t forget to blot with a tissue. Lightly place that same tissue over your lips and dust a bit of powder with a big fluffy brush over the tissue. Turns out the powder will help get rid of any extra moisture and keep the color on lock down.
4. Don’t forget to moisturize. When it comes down to it, your lips are just as important as the rest of your skin – and would you neglect moisturizing your whole face? No way! So don’t forget about your lips, especially during these cold winter months. Find a go-to lip balm and use it every day. (Tip: Smith’s Rosebud Salve has a cult following!)
5. BONUS: Are you the girl who always ends up with lipstick on her teeth? This little trick will save you every time. After applying your lip color, use your index finger to get that excess gloss off the inside of your lips. Don’t forget to wash your hands and then slide your finger on the inside of your lips (you only have to do this once!) – to get all that color off the inside.
