6 All-Natural Hair Remedies

Egg Wash: This treatment works for dry or oily hair. If you have dry hair, use the egg yolk. If you have oily hair, only use egg whites. Mix in a small bowl (enough to completely cover your hair) and apply with a brush the way you’d apply hair color. Put on a shower cap and leave on for 20 minutes. When the time is up, rinse your hair with cool water before shampooing and styling as usual. Hair should be softer and shinier.

Olive Oil: Use this treatment the way you would any hot oil treatment – about once a week is enough. Pour half a cup of olive oil into a small bowl and microwave for 30 seconds, enough to make it warm, not hot. Start with dry, untangled hair. Place a towel around your shoulders to catch any drippings. Using your fingertips, massage the oil into your scalp. Then follow with a comb to make sure the oil covers the rest of your hair. Put on a shower cap, and leave the treatment on for 30 minutes. Rinse with cold water and then shampoo as usual. No need to condition when you do this treatment.

Flour: This treatment is wonderful on oily hair. Instead of using dry shampoo, use flour to absorb oil on the roots of your hair. Let it sit for a few minutes and then brush through with fingers or a comb. This can extend your time between washes and makes up-dos more manageable.

Avocado: If you have frizz you need to tame, avocado is the natural answer. Mash half an avocado in a bowl and apply to clean, damp hair. Let it sit for about 15 minutes before rinsing with water. For more a deeper moisturizing treatment, combine with two egg yolks. Do this whenever your hair feels dry and in need of a boost.

Honey: For a quick, extra bit of shine, apply honey in the shower between shampooing and conditioning your hair. Leave on for a few minutes before rinsing with water.

Coconut Oil: For fuller hair, try coconut oil. In a small bowl, warm up some coconut oil (about 20 seconds in a microwave) and apply to clean, damp hair. Leave on for 10 minutes and rinse with cold water. Follow with light conditioner only at the tips of hair. Rinse off and style as usual for a thicker mane.
