Have you ever thought that if you could just squeeze in a little more movement to your day you’d feel a whole lot better? Well, the truth is – you probably would! Sitting at a desk (or just sitting in general) for 8+ hours a day leaves your body feeling lethargic and sometimes even sore. From a few in-chair exercises to standing up here and there, I think you’ll find a little extra movement goes a long way!
6 Easy Ways to Add Some Movement to Your Day
- Stand for a few minutes every hour while working. I know this sounds impossible – just tilt your monitor and stack some books to raise your keyboard. Or, if you can, invest in a sit-stand desk.
- If possible, make standing a part of your commute. If you ride the bus or subway, skip the seat and stand.
- Make your lunch hour a power hour. Get some good walking in during this time – walk to purchase your lunch or eat lunch later and spend your break walking the parking lot or streets by your office.
- When you do have to sit (for extended amounts of time) flex your toes, feet and practice knee lifts under your desk or the table.
- Rather than spending all your time typing, try using diction software or voice dictate on your smartphone to record notes and emails.
- Take your dog for a walk as soon as you get home! It will do you some good to get fresh hair after sitting in the car or on a bus during your drive home.
