6 Hidden Benefits of Tea

For some of us the mere thought of giving up our morning cup of joe in favor of tea is a miserable thought. Between the needed caffeine jolt and the warm, creamy taste – the morning coffee routine is a tough one to break. But like anything, having an addiction (even to coffee) is worth trying to break and steer in a more wholesome direction. If you’ve been considering it, but you just aren’t sure how to get started here’s a look at why switching from coffee to tea just might be worth it.

  1. Tea will help keep you on your toes. Boasting effects like increased energy and even proven to help slow the aging process, healthy and herbal teas are an excellent choice for anyone looking to stay in tip top shape. According to some studies, the effects of tea get all the way down to the cellular level, helping the body to stay in prime condition.
  2. Tea is good for you! While there’s nothing wrong with a cup of coffee every once in a while (moderation, right?) tea is actually packed full of antioxidants which are great for your overall health. From lowering cholesterol to green tea’s ability to increase fat burning, tea is the ultimate healthy choice. Not to mention a piping hot cup of tea sounds absolutely delicious.
  3. Breath deep and reduce stress. While coffee is known for getting the blood pumping and the energy going, tea can actually help calm the nerves and reduce stress. Black tea, specifically, can reduce cortisol levels (a stress hormone), leaving you feeling cool, calm and collected.
  4. Some studies suggest tea may even help protect the body against certain types of cancer like breast, colon, and even oral cancer. There’s those antioxidants hard at work again!!
  5. Say goodbye to coffee-stained teeth. This one should be a no brainer for anyone who wants to look his or her absolute best. Coffee does a number on your teeth, while tea boasts less staining. Also some teas even help keep your teeth healthy while staving off bad breath.
  6. Believe it or not, despite the caffeine found in some tea, it’s actually hydrating.

Still not sold? Perhaps go for a gradual switch, exchanging one cup of coffee a day for tea – just to be sure you get those added health benefits? How about you – coffee, tea or both?
