For many women, finding a way to achieve the smoothest skin possible is a dream – and if you could find a way to make that dream come true, you’d be thrilled. With hair removal as one of the best ways to get that silky feeling, the next step is finding a system that works for you. From waxing and shaving to laser procedures, each person’s skin responds to hair removal treatments differently – and sometimes it takes a little trial and error to figure out what’s ideal. If you’re thinking about trying a little something new to get that super smooth skin you’re after, here’s a glimpse at 6 hair removal techniques.
- Sugaring. Sounds so perfectly sweet, doesn’t it? For many of us, waxing and cream hair removers cause redness and irritation, while sugar waxing is a natural and for some skin, more gentle alternative. Using sugar, water, lemon juice and glycerin, a soft wax is formed – perfect for hair removal. The sugar is actually used a room temp and removes only the hairs, rather than taking some skin with it.
- Electrolysis. If you want a more permenant solution for hair removal, this is the way to go. Using a small needle, a radio frequency is sent to the hair follicle, destroying the hair from the bottom up. This works great on all types and colors of hair – but can get pretty pricey. Most people need approximately 4-6 sessions for the best results.
- Laser hair reduction. There are a host of laser hair removal techniques out there – talking to your dermatologist is best when it comes to this. He or she can guide you in the specific type of laser procedure that’s best for your type of hair and skin. Laser treatments destroy hair at the follicle by delivering a laser beam – it feels like a quick burning sensation. Ultimately, making hair much, much finer than before. This can get a bit pricey – so be sure to work with your doc for the best plan.
- Threading. If you haven’t tried threading yet, you’ve probably seen threading studios popping up everywhere. Super common in overseas (India and the Middle East, specifically), the popularity of threading in the U.S. has grown tremendously in recent years – and it’s a pretty cool technique. The esthetician uses a piece of thread to removes hairs at the root – making it incredibly precise. This form of hair removal is most commonly used on the face – lip, brows, chin etc.
- Hair removal cream. This solution has been around for decades; it’s completely painless and is a pretty easy (and inexpensive) DIY treatment. Hair removal cream goes on just like lotion and when rinsed off, so is the hair! Some creams can cause a bit of irritation – it may take a bit of trial and error to find the one that works for you.
- Shaving and tweezing. There’s nothing like a good pair of tweezers to get those brows just right and a razor to get your legs beach-ready. If you have the time and you like the idea of getting the job done yourself – why not?
