On busy days, sentiments of overwhelm and stress can quickly lead to feelings of nervousness. Anxiety gets to the best of us, especially on the days when we don’t have time to deliver anything less than our A-game. Here are a few quick tricks to help stop anxiety.

6 Ways to Stop Anxiety Quickly

1. Breathe.

Breathe in slowly for 7 seconds, hold for 3 seconds, then breathe out slowly for 8 seconds. Repeat this breathing exercise 10 times to help slow down your heart rate.

2. Avoid caffeine.

Coffee, tea and other caffeinated drinks increase your heart rate and blood sugar levels which can antagonize symptoms of anxiety. Stick to water. Your skin will thank you for it, anyway.

3. Phone a friend.

Talking things over with a trusted friend can help put things in perspective while the act of support itself brings comfort and calm.

4. Run it off.

High anxiety can make you feel like your adrenaline levels are through the roof – as if you could power a whole city on the nervous energy you’re omitting.
Hit the gym. Many anxiety sufferers find aerobic exercise a great way to burn off stress hormones that generate anxiety while helping clear the mind.

5. Find your happy place.

Discover what relaxes you, and engage in this activity when you feel anxious feelings starting to sneak up on you. For many people, a walk outdoors, listening to relaxing music or a warm, luxurious bath filled with salts are given as valid solutions to help reduce anxiety.

6. Think natural.

There are many natural remedies for anxiety. Kava is a popular anti-anxiety herb, but you should seek advice from your doctor first as kava can react to certain medications and alcohol.
