Self-love was the buzzword of 2017 – but what does it mean and why does it need to be our new BFF? Self-love is all about learning to love yourself.
Self-Love: Why it Needs to be Your New BFF
How you love yourself sets the tone for every relationship and friendship you ever experience. It’s the foundation for how you interact and love the people around you. If you show yourself nothing but negativity, you’ll get back what you put into the universe.
People who don’t love themselves often surround themselves with negative energy, reckless behavior and other challenging personality traits that, by human nature, other people will find undesirable qualities.
We are our own worst enemy at times – our very own harshest critic that ridicules every aspect of ourselves. Society tells us to love ourselves, but similarly, labels people who do publicly adore themselves as arrogant or vain.
11 ways to incorporate self-love into your everyday life:
- Buy yourself something you’ve wanted for ages. What’s the point in working hard if we can’t reward ourselves?
- Spring clean your apartment and work environment. Clearing the clutter helps dust away the chaos and restore a sense of calm.
- Take time out of every day to relax – either outside with your morning coffee, a quick, quiet lunch or a yoga class.
- Pamper yourself. Book in for a massage, a mani-pedi or even a spa weekend.
- Wear outfits that make you feel fabulous – nothing glows as radiantly as a woman who feels beautiful.
- Try and get eight hours beauty sleep every night. Allowing your body to rejuvenate itself is the very essence of self-love.
- Host a girl’s night in – being around the people who love you uplifts your spirit.
- Book in for a makeover. A fresh new hairstyle and makeup look can take years off while reminding everyone how fabulous you look.
- If you’re struggling with areas of your life, hire a reputable, referred life coach. They can help guide you in the right direction.
- Write a letter to an ex or former friend you’re still struggling to let go of and then burn it.
Cook yourself an incredible meal or treat yourself to dinner at your favorite restaurant, just because! - Plan to do something you’ve wanted to do for some time. Stop daydreaming, start doing!
