It’s not every day you hear a story that really shocks you but the recent news about David Whipple, a Utah man who saved a hamburger from McDonald’s since 1999, is pretty surprising! Whipple recently made the decision to go public with his McDonald’s experiment and appeared as a guest on the talk show The Doctors, where he shared his experience with saving the burger.
Whipple had only planned on saving it for a couple of weeks – just to see what would happen and to show it off to his friends. But he forgot all about the burger and two years later, he found the burger in his coat pocket (I’m not kidding!) with zero evidence of rotting. In that moment, Whipple decided to hold on to the burger to see just how long it would take to disintegrate.

After more than a decade, the only thing that has disappeared is the pickle. The burger looks exactly the same. While I am floored by this story, Whipple has used the experience to teach his grandchildren about healthy eating.
He said, “It’s great for my grandkids to see. To see what happens with fast food.” And, what does McDonald’s have to say? “The burgers and buns don’t rot because they become very dry in the cooking and toasting process.”
Most of the time I skip out on fast food and I try my best to take a healthy approach to my diet and lifestyle. How about you? Do you eat a lot of fast food? Will this experiment change your mind?
