With all the awesome blowout bars out there, it’s tough not to head straight over to one as soon as you need your hair to look on point. But, what about those days when a DIY is really your only option? Don’t fear the blow-dryer – you’ve got this – you just need a few tricks of the trade. With “Brazilian Blowout Day” being honored today, August 21st, it’s time to step up your blowout game and get that hair looking shiny and full of volume. Ready to tackle the challenge of giving yourself the best blowout at home? Here are a few tips to get you started:
Tips for the Perfect Blowout
Start with clean and conditioned hair. If you want your hair looking its absolute best, it has to be clean and soft – and that means giving it a good shampoo and following up with conditioner. You don’t have to go over the top with conditioning treatments, just hop in the shower and go through your normal hair cleansing routine.
Fixx™ Argan Oil Shampoo & Conditioner is my favorite.
Once your hair is washed, conditioned and towel dried, follow up with a volumizing spray to add some body. Spray the volumizer on damp hair from the roots to the tips, running your fingers through to be sure it’s evenly distributed.
Fixx™ Volumizing Boost Spray is my go-to anytime I’m going for the perfect DIY blowout.
Start blow drying by working your hands and fingers through the damp hair rather than with a brush. Known as rough drying, you can even try tipping your head forward to work the blow dryer from underneath as you try to get as much moisture out of the hair as possible. Once your hair is mostly dry, separate it into 3-4 sections with clips or hair ties so that you can work with the smaller sections.
Using a large round brush, dry hair from the root to the tip, brushing and drying the hair away from the face. Repeat this process with all the sections one-by-one until they’re all smooth and fully dry. A pro-tip is to work from the back to the front, using the round brush to lift hair in an upward motion as you dry.
Ready to lock in that gorgeous blowout? Switch the blow dryer setting to cool and give the roots a pop of that cool air as you let down each section. As you let down the sections, use your fingers to comb through and loosen them up. Follow up with a quick spray of dry shampoo to the roots to keep that bounce and volume looking its absolute best. You guessed it…my favorite is Fixx™ Dry Shampoo – it works great and leaves my hair full of volume.
Finish everything off with a smoothing serum like Fixx™ Argan Oil No Frizz to leave hair frizz free and super shiny.
And, you’re ready to head out for the day, looking gorgeous as ever! What do you think? Can you follow these steps to get the best DIY blowout around?
