When I think of the saying, “Beauty is pain,” the first thing that comes to mind is getting a wax. The results are excellent, but the anticipation is enough to give anyone a panic attack. While the art of Brazilian wax has become hugely popular, many women don’t quite know how to prepare themselves for the procedure correctly. If you’re getting ready for your first wax or need to brush up on how to get ready for your initiation into the world of waxing, you’re in luck. Check out my advice for prepping the skin to put your mind at ease this swimsuit season!
4 Brilliant Ways to Prep for a Brazilian Wax
1. Make sure your hair is long enough. One of the most common mistakes people make before getting a wax is underestimating their hair length. Your hair should be at least a quarter of an inch for the wax to be able to pick it up. So, that means no trimming before your session. Once you go in, your wax specialist will trim your hair if necessary.
2. Do not get a wax during your monthly cycle. During this time, your bikini area is the most sensitive.
3. Take ibuprofen at least 30 minutes before your session. If you don’t have a high pain tolerance, I would recommend taking a painkiller before your appointment. It will help ease the pain during and after your wax.
4. Do not sip on a cocktail before your scheduled time. This myth has been circling so much many people believe this helps with the pain. In actuality, the presence of alcohol in your system will increase the level of pain you experience. Save the cocktail until after your session.
